The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has revealed that popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, will be kept in a male cell after he was sentenced to 6 months in jail for allegedly abusing the naira.
A spokesperson for the Correctional Service in Lagos noted that the crossdresser identified as a male when being questioned in court, which influenced their decision to place him in a male-designated facility.
Bobrisky has continuously insisted that he identifies as female and claims he has undergone gender reassignment surgery. This led to concerns about his safety in jail due to his gender preference.
Many Nigerians were wondering which section of the cell would Bobrisky be kept after he was arrested by the EFCC, following his persistent outburst that he is a woman and no longer a man, whereas he was naturally born a male.
While the bewilderedness prevailed, the spokesperson of the Nigerian correctional service deemed it expedient to clear the air that Bobrisky having identified as male while on trial in court, would be kept in the male section of the cell. He also assured that Bobrisky would be adequately protected from potential harm. According to the spokesperson, the decision to put Bobrisky in a male cell is to protect him from sexual predators.
“Since he admitted to being a male in court, then we have to abide by what was submitted in court. He shouldn’t be afraid of sexual assault from other male inmates because our men can give him protection,” the spokesperson said.
Recall that Bobrisky was recently awarded the title of Best Dressed Female of the Night, along with a prize of one million naira during the premiere of the movie “Ajanku: Beast of two world”.
The premiere, held at the Circle Mall in Lekki, was a star-studded affair, with Nollywood A-listers like Toyin Abraham, Mercy Aigbe, Odunlade Adekola, Femi Adebayo, and Sola Sobowale gracing the red carpet. But it was Bobrisky who captivated the crowd.
After he was announced the winner, reactions trailed among Nigerians, as they questioned the rationale behind a male winning the award that was designated for female. Bobrisky reacting to the uproar, boasted that he beat those who claimed to be “real women” to the award.
He wrote, “I love my sisterhood no cap! But e get some haters among them. Una dey claim real women blabla but I won hands down. Who come be the real woman now? Don’t play!”
Also, recall that the crossdresser had earlier announced that he has acquired vagina. He shared on his Instagram page that his transition journey into womanhood went smoothly without any health issues. He requested Nigerians to address him as a woman, mentioning that he underwent breast surgery after removing his manhood.
“I want to express my gratitude to all my doctors, both at home and abroad. You all have done an amazing job with my body,” said Bobrisky.
