The Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party strongly criticized the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government on Monday for acquiring a new presidential jet valued at $100 million without seeking approval from the National Assembly.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, and the Deputy Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, strongly criticized the government’s actions, stating that it was extremely insensitive. They emphasized that at a time when Nigerians are grappling with severe economic hardship and struggling to afford basic necessities, the government’s decision was particularly callous and out of touch with the realities on the ground.

The campaign spokesman for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Yunusa Tanko, expressed concern over the President’s decision to prioritize his convenience over the well-being of Nigerians, especially in the midst of the country’s economic hardships.

President Tinubu departed for a productive visit to France on Monday, using a state-of-the-art Airbus A330 business jet that has recently been added to the presidential fleet.

The aircraft is now registered to the Nigerian Air Force. This model, typically used as a twin-aisle passenger aircraft, was purchased last month at a cost of $100m.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, recently took to his verified social media handle to share compelling images of the latest addition to the presidential fleet – the presidential jet. These exclusive images provided the public with a rare glimpse of the new aircraft, offering insights into its features and further piquing public interest.
